Reveal day is finally here guys!!! We are so excited to share all the deets with you, but so sad this project has come to an end. Tanya was SO much fun to work with, we enjoyed every part of helping her place feel like her and like home.
When we first met with Tanya, one thing was clear, she was ready to start fresh in her new apartment. She didn’t have any furniture or decor, she just knew that she wanted her place to reflect who she is. If you follow her on social or listen to her on Kiis FM or on her podcast, Scrubbing In With Becca Tilley and Tanya Rad, you know that she is a MODERN WOMAN. She has big ambition and the heart it takes to get what she sets her mind to. After our first few meetings with her, we knew that her vibe was going to be a mix of modern, soft, and cozy. The rooms she had us design were her dining area, living room, and her master bedroom.
Tanya knew that she wanted a clean, close to minimal look, so when it came to her living room she was really contemplating a white couch, but after some thought she decided that a white couch may be too risky. White couches can be scary guys! Lord knows that one spill of that vino and a freak out will ensue. BUT there are choices out there that hold up well and can take on high traffic rooms. Ultimately though, Tanya felt white was not the color she wanted to move forward with. The color palette we ended up with is grey, cream, and blush, with some gold accents.
If you live in an apartment, you know that you have to maximize the space you have and it’s important to choose pieces that will provide the pop of drama you need, but still make it balance as a whole. We wanted to achieve a cozy but modern vibe, but were careful not to clutter up the space. The beautiful round white lacquered dining table for example, brought in that chic modern look, but didn’t over power the space and then adding in the 3 tiered chandelier was just the right amount of extra. Tanya LOVES acrylic pieces (who doesn’t?!) and wanted to incorporate it into the design, we felt that ghost chairs for the dining area would be a great way to add that dimension and keep the dining area light and airy. We brought in the cozy by bringing in some texture and warmth with the pillows and throws for the couch. The acrylic coffee table again added the hint of modern, but kept the living space from feeling or looking cluttered.
As you may know, Tanya lives and breathes music, so creating this fun gallery wall for her was a must! The gallery brings a creative edge to the overall look of the space and we love how that guitar starts it off!
Tanya only had two big requests – she wanted it to feel like a chic hotel (who doesn’t love a staycation?!) and unlike downstairs, she wanted it to be all white! Having an all white space can be tricky as everything can end up looking flat and blend together. To prevent this, we made it a point to choose pieces with texture or movement in order to add depth and life to the space. We brought in texture through the throw pillows, shag rug, and pom pom curtains. The 3D nightstands also add a lot of interest and personality to her bedroom.
Another element that she was SO excited to have in her new bedroom was a vanity. She wanted a place to get dolled up for a night out on the town or one of the many fabulous events she gets to attend. We combined a beautiful desk from CB2 with a vanity mirror from a showroom in Hollywood, CA. Not only is it beautiful, but it also provides a lot of light - something that was definitely needed in her room!
Working with Tanya was a dream. She is an amazing human with a heart of gold and we are so happy with how her Modern Woman Abode turned out! Tanya, thank you so much for letting us into your home, trusting us, and for being a friend. We love you!
